Are the vegetable plants that I find at a local place better quality that ones I can get at Lowes?
I am going to plant a small vegetable garden. Will buying the vegetable plants from a local place give me better results? Or does it not matter?

I don’t know if the seeds will necessarily be any more or less better or produce more or less, but at least at the local place, you’ll be supporting a local business and they’ll likely be more helpful with any questions you have than the people at lowes. I’d assume that the local place would be better if you’re buying the plants that are already sprouted because lowes probably has had to ship that stuff all over the country, while the local place has taken care of it at their garden/greenhouse the whole time. I’d do local, personally.
We always use a local nursery where we know the plants are healthy and not forced on as they are in some chain stores. Just don’t expect fancy packaging, they come as they are grown. xx
Where I live (I’m currently out of town for work) the local Garden Center, Lowes and Walmart all get their transplants from the same supplier- Bonnies. The only differences are price and selection; Walmart has the better prices but the Garden Center has the best selection. Lowes has a wider selection than Walmart but is about 3% higher; the Garden Center has an even wider selection but is about 5% higher than Walmart. I buy most at Walmart, but I check the others for varieties Walmart doesn’t offer and don’t mind paying a little more for the varieties I want to grow. The Garden Center also has a more informed staff to answer my questions and they don’t mind sharing the information freely.
Good luck and enjoy!
I started mine from seed and it was pretty easy! I used Jiffy pellets…http://www.amazon.com/Jiffy-32-All-In-One-Greenhouse-25/dp/B00004RA48/ref=pd_sbs_ol_2
I’d prefer to buy locally but I really don’t think it makes a difference unless the local grower offers certified disease free plants. I don’t think they are certified from big chain stores.
I have found, except for the high end local growers, That it really doesn’t matter. I use to start all by seed and that seemed to actually work the best. Even lower quality or what seem to be plants, can thrive if they ae taken are of properly.
