What vegetables are good and bad for our dogs?
I want to feed them vegetables. I know they really can’t digest carrots, and I’ve heard seeds, grapes, raisins are bad for them .. is this true? someone shine some light on this subject for me! thanks!

- frozen vegetable for dogs , our dog eats veggies scrap
carrots are actually very good for dogs. its included in most kibble as a fiber supplement
I feed my dog baby carrots as a treat every so often, and she doesn’t seem to have any problem digesting them…and she LOVES them. Grapes and raisins are poisonous to them, as are onions/garlic. However, it would have to be a very large amount of garlic. Broccoli stems she seems to like also.
feed them cabbage
all vegetables are bad for dogs! dogs are predators.. they dont need to eat vegetables and their digestive systems cant extract nutrients from veggies effectively. dogs need a meat based diet only. most dogs are allergic/sensitive to grains and plant matter. there’s no reason to feed your dog vegetables and you run the risk of really upsetting his belly and skin. that’s why you always here people trashing store brand pet foods… they’re made with filler grains and vegetables instead of meat
baby carrots are great! my dogs love um…apples(no seeds of any kind!) are good for um, groomer told me frozen green beans are good too. thats pretty much all i give um! hope i helped
ps yes grapes are bad, no seeds/pits, i wouldnt think celery b/c of the lil strips could make um choke.
but dont give them too much at once it will hurt their tum tum just for a treat once and a while = )
Bone-apateite lol
Carrots and in particular, carrot tops, are very very good for dogs’ digestive systems….the bonus is that most dogs love them!
Avoid onions, as they are poisonous in large amounts.
My dog loves grapes and gets them (2 or 3 only), frozen, in his water on exceptionally hot days.
No onions, or Rhubarb (I didn’t want to share mine anyway). Link below will hopefully provide more info. Follow menus to foods that are toxic.
The other ladies are correct. On this same link you will find carrots as a treat for weight control.
List of toxic foods to dogs, carrots are GOOD for them. It is corn that they cannot digest.

Aside from the toxic vegetables, the non-toxic vegetables don’t provide any nutritional benefit unless they are thoroughly cooked or pureed. If you just give a dog raw vegetables, it’ll go out the same way it came in. Some other toxic vegetables include onions and garlic (garlic in SMALL amounts is completely fine and even has beneficial properties for dogs).
There’s no harm in feeding a dog a couple baby carrots, but keep in mind if you’re so insistent on feeding vegetables, they shouldn’t make up more than 5-10% of a dog’s diet. Dogs are CARNIVORES and should be eating meat. My dog eats a raw diet consisting of purely raw meat, bones, and organs.
grapes are bad, well the skin on a grape is bad it can create a toxin in there body. it can do the same in humans but dogs are smaller and are affected quicker than us with smaller doses. carrots are good, peeled apples are good(a fruit i know but its still good for them)
Many dogs (like mine) love apples. My dog especially likes green apples. She also loves all kinds of berries – strawberries and blackberries are her favorite. She also likes bananas a lot too. The only fruits I don’t give her are grapes/raisins which are toxic to dogs.
My dog loves salad – when we eat salad with dinner she dances around and whines until we put the left overs in her dish for her to eat. Strange but true! She loves tomatoes and broccoli (but the broccoli gives her really bad gas so we try not to give her any LOL).
Carrots are actually very healthy and fight Periodontal disease. Potatos, tomatos, alfalfa sprouts, and apples are also very healthy.
Avoid things such as onions, garlic, chives, grapes, raisens, avocados, macadamia nuts, chocolate, caffiene, alcohol, yeast dough, xylitol (type of sweetener), Raw/undercooked meats, eggs, and bones, and milk. These foods are either toxic or cause other health problems.
Apples, carrots and peas are often added to dog food, even the home made kind, so these should be ok – be sure to core the apple first.
Onions and corn are HUGE no-no.
I’ve never thought to give raisins or grapes to our dogs, so I honestly don’t know if they are good or bad for them.
Best I can tell you is do lots of research – it’s the only way you’ll find out for sure.
Blessings.
Vegetables are great for dogs!! Just don’t feed them onions or garlic. And grapes are definitely poisonous. I know my dogs love baby carrots and apple slices!
Why do you want to feed your carnivore vegetables? Their digestive system is not designed for carbohydrates or fibre – this is a physiological fact. Dogs can and do enjoy some vegetable matter (the same way we like chocolate) but this doesn’t mean that it should form a significant part of their diet.
They should have not more than about 5% vegetables/fruit/table scraps and as little grain as possible.
The only way to prevent periodontal disease and to ensure that your dog receives all the nutrition it need is to feed 70-80% raw meat, 10-15% edible bones and 10-15% offal. They need to eat raw meaty bones to keep the teeth and gums cleans. Over 80% of dogs have periodontal disease and this is caused by commercial food.
