Why is it that fruits and vegetables make my stool hard instead of soft?
I’ve always been told that vegetables and fruit have fiber in them and make you regular. However, I always usually get constipated after eating vegetables or fruits. I don’t drink much water though. 1 glass a day. What this have anything to do with it? Plus, do I still need to drink water along with fruits and vegetables to make myself regular and not constipated. I eat greasy foods and then I’m not constipated explain this please?

The fiber in fruits and veggies makes the food travel through your intestines slower, this means there is more time for the water to be absorbed through the intestinal lining. To be regular you need to be drinking lots of water.
I grew up eating lots of whole grains and veggies, not much junk…my husband grew up eating junk and not much of the other. He is regular eating his stuff and I’m regular eating my stuff, if either of us eat the opposite way, it has an affect. Over the last 8 years my husband has crossed over to my side:) and it’s taken his body awhile to adjust, but he is healthier (blood pressure, cholesteral, weight all good)..so in answering your question, how do you normally eat? Your body learns to digest what you give it, if you don’t eat a lot of veggies and fruits and you start eating them, it will affect your body…but it will in a good way, just give it time. Metamucil (sp?) is a great way to ensure you get your fiber and keep you regular.
You probably need to drink more water. The fiber in the food wants to absorb water to help bulk up your stool and keep things moving, but if you’re not getting enough water, it doesn’t have anything to absorb. There are a variety of recommendations on how much water to drink, but a good rule of thumb is that if your urine is clear or very light yellow, you’re drinking enough. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink a glass, because by that point you’re already slightly dehydrated.
